Trawlers

After tons of dumped fish floated up on the beaches of the Kenya
National Marine Park and Reserve, MaMa’s leaders focused the public
outcry that forced the Fisheries Department to evict illegal trawlers
from the Malindi area. Sadly the trawlers have now returned.

Goodwill and Pressure

MaMa has organized several very large meetings between our local
fishermen and government officials. We aim to foster improved
relations and to create community goodwill – which has been sorely
lacking. The meetings also raise inexorable pressure for KWS, the
Fisheries Department, and Immigration authorities and the Malindi
police to live up to their enforcement responsibilities.
